VARIETY INNOVATION

Geoplant Vivai, with a view to implementing its varietal range and to better respond to the requests of the producers and of the market, has embarked on a vigorous program of breeding in its experimental fields in Ravenna, which led to the patenting of GEA and FEBE and the research/experimentation is continuing in the following sectors as well: pears, apricots, cherries, kiwi fruits and of course, in strawberries too!

PEACHES AND NECTARINES

The breeding program was started in 1999 and is now “bearing fruit”. In 2010 GEA (yellow nectarine) and in 2012 FEBE (yellow nectarine) were licensed.

A few numbers…
10,000 Seedlings planted and evaluated
More than 150 level 2 selections
30 advanced selections
2 varieties licensed

Our goals…
– Greater size
– Greater consistency of the fruit
– Sweet and aromatic flavour
– Intense and extensive colour
– Consistently high productivity
– Rusticity of the plant
– Resistance to primary dangers and physiopathologies

CHERRY

In our experimental fields we estimate more than 140 advanced selections and varieties from foreign and Italian research institutes. The project began in 2008 and continues today. Our goal is to enter new varieties on the market that can convey the best performances without risks for farmers. The most promising selections are close to patenting, so if you want to know more, please contact us.

APRICOT

Just like for the cherry we are estimating selections and varieties from all over Europe, on the same rootstocks and under the same conditions that Italian producers have. Only the best germoplasm is selected and will be brought on the market. This project was started in 2008 and is close to giving its first results. Please contact us!

PEAR

IThe breeding program for this species began recently in 2009, but has great prospects. To date, more than 6000 seedlings have been fielded that will be evaluated during the next few years.

Our goals are…
Unripe varieties with fruit red in colour and large size and consistency
Late varieties with a long shelf life, excellent flavour and intense colouring
Varieties resistant to Erwinia amylovora

STRAWBERRY

The inspired intuition in 1992 of founding the New Fruits s.a.s., research firm for the genetic improvement of strawberries, is the basis of the current success of Geoplant Vivai s.r.l in this sector. Varieties such as Maya, Alba (NF311 * ) , Roxana (NF205 * ) , Asia (NF421 * ) , Syria (NF137 * ) and Alina (NF195A * ) belong to the past and the present of Italian and European strawberry farming. The most recent cultivars introduced, characterized by fruit of the highest quality taste, demonstrate the company’s willingness to complete and implement the concept of quantity, focusing in an ever bigger way on the concept of quality.
Since 2010, Geoplant Vivai has launched a complementary and independent research project managed by technicians and business breeders with great experience, in order to give producers an ever more valid and competitive variety.

A few numbers…
In the three-year period 2010-2013 over 20,000 seedlings evaluated
More than 320 level 2 selections
35 Advanced selections

Our goals…
Unripe varieties
Late Varieties
Flowering varieties
Varieties for industry (high consistency, flavour and aroma)
